Household goods popular among thieves so far this year

Hot water heater stolen

A Lake Street couple reported  to Kent police on Jan. 15 that their water heater was stolen. The couple reported thieves broke into their home and stole the 80-gallon hot water tank and damaged the plumbing in their home in the process, according to a police report.

Police valued the water heater at $1,000 and estimated the thieves caused $600 in damage to the home during the theft.

Thieves steal hard work

Firewood cut and stacked by students at Theodore Roosevelt High School was reported stolen on Jan. 10.

The cut, split, cured and stacked firewood is part of a club fundraising project. The wood was valued at $450, according to Kent police.

Xanax, sweaters and electronics nabbed

Thieves have been busy in Kent and nabbed a number of household and electronic goods so far this month.

A Walter Street resident told police thieves broke into a home and stole nine sweaters, an undisclosed number of Xanax pills, 20 CDs, 16 DVDs and a CD/DVD player. The stolen items were valued at $250. The theft was reported Jan. 12, according to Kent police.

A resident of 1800 Rhodes Road told police thieves stole a complete car audio system valued at more than $600. The stolen electronics included two 6-inch-by-9-inch custom speakers, two 12-inch woofers, a JVC CD player and a U.S. amplifier. The theft was reported Jan. 17, according to a police report.

A Kent State University student told police a BlackBerry cell phone, Kent State Flashcard and room key to Olson Hall were stolen Jan. 17, according to Kent police.
