Sheriff's office arrests Kent man in FirstMerit robbery

A Kent man has been arrested and charged in Friday's robbery of FirstMerit Bank.

The Portage County Sheriff's Office announced the arrest of Andrew G. Knechtle, 25, of 133 Brady St., Tuesday.

The sheriff's office did not say what led them to Knechtle and only stated that he was identified as a person of interest during the investigation.

Knechtle has been cooperating with the investigation, according to the sheriff's office.

He has been charged with aggravatted robbery, a first-degree felony, and is being held at the Portage County jail without bail. He is scheduled to be arraigned this afternoon.

At approximately 3:45 p.m. Friday a subject entered the bank and approached one of the cashiers. The subject presented a note indicating that he was armed with a gun. An undisclosed amount of money was given to the subject, who then fled from the bank on foot.
