Why Go: Local foodies, groups and restaurants prepare food for the community at multiple grilling stations. Beverages available too. Live music from local bands including The Bluestones and Up Til 4. Proceeds go to and the Kevin Coleman Foundation.
Pricing: $10 for three portions of food from grilling stands. Additional food purchase as well as beer and soda available from prices ranging from $1 to $5. Open to the public, all ages.
2. Battle of the Joysticks: 2011 Citywide Madden Tournament
Where/When: Canal Park, 300 S. Main St., downtown Akron.

Why Go: Proceeds from the event go to the Young Black Professionals Coalition 4th Annual I Know I Can Back to School Drive in August. Tournament brackets include both Playstation 3 and Xbox 360 consoles. Put your game skills to the test against area competition in realtime for a worthy cause. Winner gets cash prize and Madden 2012 video game. NFL players expected to attend.

Why Go: Event to help defray costs of fighting a third bout of breast cancer by local dispatcher Sara Anweiler. She has worked for the Kent State University Police Department and Brimfield Township Emergency Services. Benefit ticket for the event gets you appetizers, pasta buffet dinner with beverage and dessert, and access to cash bar, dancing, raffles and auction.

4. : Kent Youth Football

Sunday, June 12, noon to 3 p.m.
Why Go: Support the 2011 football and cheer season for the Kent All Ohio Youth Football Association. Event proceeds help cover fees and uniform costs for players and cheerleaders that cannot afford them. Benefit ticket includes bowling, shoe rental, pizza and pop.
Pricing: $12 entry fee. Open to public, all ages.
5. - 13th Annual Student Art Exhibition
Where/When: , 257 N. Water St., downtown Kent.

Regular Gallery Hours: Thursday to Saturday 1 p.m. to 5 p.m. Exhibit runs until June 25.
Why Go: The next great internationally acclaimed artist may be showing their work for the first time. Have a look at what area youth is creating from schools including and St. Vincent St. Mary. Standing Rock Cultural Arts is one of the city's leaders in promoting art for everyone to enjoy, take advantage of it.
Pricing: Free entry, but donations always appreciated. Open to the public, all ages.
6. The Riverfront Irish Festival
Where/When: Falls River Square, 2085 Front St., Cuyahoga Falls.

Sunday, June 12, noon to 7 p.m.
Why Go: Claimed as the largest free Irish Fest in the Midwest. Multiple Irish and American food vendors. Three stages of live music with scheduled performances by 14 bands including the world traveled Canadian alt-celt group the Glengarry Bhoys. Take part in the festival 5K or mile run on Saturday and the traditional Irish mass on Sunday. Sponsored by the Ancient Order of Hibernians, St. Brendan Division.
Pricing: Free entry. Open to the public, all ages.
Where/When: Akron Zoo, 500 Edgewood Drive, Akron.
Wednesday, June 15, 6 p.m. to 9 p.m.
Why Go: Drink beer and eat appetizers from local breweries while you walk around the zoo. It's a beer and animal lovers dream come true. Taste samples from Indigo Imp Brewery, Thirsty Dog Brewing Co., Chardon BrewWorks & Eatery, Rocky River Brewing Co. and The Ohio Brewing Company. See the endangered Humboldt Penguins and Red Panda, or the Capybara and Ruffed Lemurs.
