Bringing the Symbol of Freedom in America to its Knees

I am too tired after being up all night monitoring, calling the Associated Press, the Humane Society, etc., messaging about the auction of branded horses, who are in fact wild horses, that was held yesterday, August 17, in Nevada to provide a comprehensive description. Nevada has the largest population of wild horses in the country. I refer you to the link at the end of this post. A TRO was granted for the unbranded wild horses, but not the branded ones, who were quickly snatched up by killer buyers with huge tractor trailers, headed for Mexico or Canada. My heart is breaking. The horses are rounded up with helicopters. Two orphan foals were in the pen, their mares killed in the craziness, horses had gashes, back injuries, etc. The Safe Act is stuck in committee so it did no good. Please call your Congress people and read this article and then act to prevent the unbranded horses from being bought by killer buyers as well if the August 21 hearing does not rule in our favor. Please. These are our wild horses  they should run free. http://wildhorseeducation.org/2013/08/17/slaughter-auction-ends-fight-not-over/  And for contributions to help fight this fight: https://org2.salsalabs.com/o/6931/donate_page/litigationfund

What happened yesterday is an absolute abomination - the desires of a greedy few took precedence over the clearly expressed dictate of the public. PLEASE support the SAFE Act - it is the public who is suffering - and will continue to suffer - from the toxic tainting of our meat supply.

I meant TRO -- Temporary Restraining Order.

Time for a Real Over-haul at the Department of Interior. Sally Jewell, head of REI was appointed head of the DOI. She was presented with a $2 million dollar study of what to do with the wild horses who are being driven off public land by BLM Cattlemen. She has ignored the National Academy of Scientists Report and prefers to see the Wild Horse destroyed. Please, do not shop at REI. Do not support Indian Casinos. Demand that Sally Jewell be replaced.

We just received this message: SW "Another update from the Fallon Auction ... Our groups have saved well over 100 horses. Here's the update. Horse free to good solids homes. No fee just need to pick up. Pray for us to get our horses out safe today. Many were hurt badly and can barely walk that others bought yesterday....kill buyers. Many need stitches and just got beat to hell. This was part of what I can barely share. Two mothers were killed and babies orphaned. We got those in private home thank god.

Last Friday the company gave broad outlines of its plans at a staff meeting, during which Mr. Armstrong also fired a Patch executive on the spot for ignoring warnings not to record internal meetings. Mr. Armstrong later apologized for the way he went about the firing.

147 wild horses, the unbranded, will be picked off by kill buyers and go to slaughter. The judge lifted the TRO which now allows the horses to, essentially, die. The Obama Administration did nothing to help save these "federally protected" horses. What exactly is the master plan? Do we really believe that 0 funding for horse slaughter plant inspections is going to stay in the 2014 budget that goes into effect October 1? Why is the Safe Act taking so long to work its way to Mr. Obama? USA, United Slaughter Ambush.

A horse loves freedom, and the weariest old work horse will roll on the ground or break into a lumbering gallop when he is turned loose into the open. ~Gerald Raferty

A horse is the projection of peoples' dreams about themselves - strong, powerful, beautiful - and it has the capability of giving us escape from our mundane existence. ~Pam Brown
