Thank You Kent

Gratitude to the City of Kent Council Members and all who have been supporting the On My Own Two Feet Marathon and Half Marathon.

Everything is go after Feb. 20 City Council meeting.

Dear City of Kent,

Last year, on April 21, On My Own Two Feet held Kent's first full marathon to raise money for local battered woman's shelters. Over $5,000 was raised and donated to Portage County’s Safer Futures, Cleveland’s Domestic Violence Center and Summit County's woman's shelter! We even donated $300 to Kent Parks and Recreation.

There were 120 runners and about 50 volunteers. This was done without spending one dime on promotions and no city involvement. We had volunteers do all the street crossings and volunteers for medical tents. There were no injuries and a 100 percent finish rate. It was a huge success!

Last year, we had eight official sponsors, including Kent's Second Sole, Wild Earth Outfitters and Glass Block Security. The shirts were printed at Kent Outfitters. It is our intent to get as many local businesses involved as possible. This year, so far, we have Second Sole, Beckwith's Orchards and Bent Tree Coffee as sponsors. We also have donations from Kent Natural Food Coop and Tree City. We expect some more local businesses to jump on board in the next couple months.

We have a great vision for the marathon and are very excited to see it growing so fast. There are already over 50 people signed up, whereas last year we were only at 15 by this point. It will be very profitable to Kent in the coming years and we are glad to grow with this awesome city.

We extend our gratitude for believing in this vision last year and hope that we have proved our ability to dream and deliver. It only goes up from here.

Thank You,

Melissa (Cairns) Mondello & OMO2F Team
