Lunch at Haymaker Farmers Market

McCoy's Custom Catering will offer fresh sandwich wraps at Haymaker Farmers Market.

One thing I’ve heard repeatedly from market customers is that they wish more savory, sit-and-eat prepared foods were available for purchase. Many would love to have lunch while listening to the great local music and visiting with friends. We were lucky to have Posh Peirogis last year, but they haven’t been able to ramp up production enough to keep up with all of the markets they are attending this season, so we haven’t seen them yet. Hot Soss Don sounds as if he’s booked solid, and usually doesn’t make it around until the cooler weather anyway – always with a truck loaded with a variety of hot homemade soups, which are always a hit.

We’ve got a few things in the works for the future, including the possibility of having a chef set up to prepare food with local ingredients. In the meantime, I’m heeding the hungry cry, and asked Daniel McCoy of McCoy’s Custom Catering if he’d be willing to bring some fresh sandwich wraps to the market on a trial basis. He got the all clear from his licensing Health Department (Summit County), and will bring a supply of ready-to-eat wraps this week.

So, think about stopping down at the market for lunch and some tunes after you stock up with all of the goodies of the season: green beans, yellow wax beans, shelling peas, kale, chard, potatoes, onions, kohlrabi, beets, turnips, lettuce, mixed salad greens, cucumbers, zucchini, tomatoes, peppers, blueberries, and raspberries.

Hungry market-goers can also grab a great homemade bite of Mediterranean food right across the street from the market at Laroush – some of the best felafel in Kent!
