Kent Shindig All-Stars Ready To Wow The Market During Heritage Fest

Haymaker Farmers’ Market in downtown Kent celebrates our independence on July 7 from 9am – 1pm along with the Kent Heritage Festival. This week’s free live Music @ the Market series (10am - noon) is the renowned Kent Shindig All-Stars, featuring Charlie Burton, champion flatfoot dancer from Beaver County, PA, and a lineup that includes 21 players from all over northeast Ohio. Playing traditional music that has been passed down through generations of musicians who learn it by ear, The Kent Shindig All-Stars always draw an enthusiastic crowd for their performances.

The lineup includes: Bob Glenn, fiddle; Amanda Morrison, fiddle; David Badagnani, fiddle, banjo, and voice; Jim Francis, fiddle; Darlene Clark, fiddle; Marlo Schatz, fiddle; Bob Goldthwaite, fiddle, guitar, and voice; Jim Miller, wooden flute, whistle, and mandolin; John Reynolds, resonator mandolin; Bev Klimp-Starcher, lap dulcimer, harmonica, and voice; Sarah Lockard, lap dulcimer; Greg Grasson, walkabout dulcimer; Richard Pryor III, ukulele and voice; Brad Kramer, banjo; Paul Certo, banjo; Pam Mitchell, guitar and voice; Dan Clark, guitar; Ed Mills, resonator guitar and voice; Conn Drugan, resonator guitar; Marilyn Phillips-Garver, double bass; Ed Wheeler, percussion

In other market news, Portage County Senior Farmers Market Vouchers were circulated recently, and several vendors at Haymaker Farmers Market accept the vouchers: Breakneck Acres, Heron Hill Farm, Black Dog Acres, Chaykowski Farm, and Shari’s Berries. Look for the Senior Vouchers signage at their booths. Another half dozen farmers at Haymaker are in the process of signing up to accept the USDA vouchers, of which $20,000 worth were circulated in Portage County for seniors to use to purchase locally grown fruits and vegetables.

It’s also a SNAP for customers to use federal supplemental nutrition benefits at the market! Customers can purchase tokens at the market info table under the bridge using their Ohio Direction Card. Vendors who accept the $1 EBT tokens have signs posted at their booth, and the tokens may be used to purchase any SNAP approved food item or food producing plant, excluding prepared hot foods meant to eat onsite. Customers who don't have enough cash on hand can also purchase $5 increment tokens at the market table by swiping their Visa/Mastercard Credit or Debit Card for a small program management fee.
