Haymaker Farmers Market Welcomes Halim El-Dabh & Guest Dr. Tuyen Tonnu

June 16 Haymaker Farmers Market with musical guest Halim El-Dabh and special performance by Dr. Tuyen Tonnu.

Visit Haymaker Farmers Market in Kent on Saturday, June 16 on Franklin Ave. under the Haymaker overpass between College St. and Summit St. The market runs rain or shine from 9am to 1pm with nearly 40 vendors and free, live local music that’s appropriate for all ages, from 10am – noon.

This week’s musical act is the inimitable Halim El-Dabh with special guest Dr. Tuyen Tonnu, a native of Vietnam, and Assistant Professor of Piano at Illinois State University. Performing both solo and chamber music, Dr. Tonnu gives regular recitals throughout the United States as well as in Europe and Asia, presenting and premiering works by Hans Otte, Jeffrey Mumford, Akin Euba, Libby Larsen, Sheila Silver, Lukas Ligeti, and others. Since the 1990s, Dr. Tonnu has been the foremost interpreter of the piano music of Halim El-Dabh, presenting the premiere performances of many of his works.

This week will prepare Pan Browned Polenta with Sautéed Greens for their cooking demonstration. The recipe will feature certified organic heirloom corn grits from Breakneck Acres Farm in Ravenna, as well as organic kale from JP’s Organics in Kent, bok choy from Heron Hill Farm in Brimfield, and organic garlic scapes from Rootstown Organic Farm. Stop by the tent just south of the bridge to taste a sample, then be sure to buy the ingredients and a grab recipe sheet to try it for yourself at home!
