EBT/SNAP Program Starts Saturday at Haymaker Market

Haymaker Farmers Market customers can now purchase local food with their Ohio Direction Card.

We're thrilled to announce that this Saturday customers will be able to shop for fresh, local, and organic fruits, vegetables, preserves, meats, cheeses and baked goods using their Ohio Direction Card at the Haymaker Farmer's Market.

The $1 increment EBT/SNAP tokens can be purchased by swiping the card at the market information table under the bridge, and vendors who accept the tokens will have signs posted at their booth. The EBT tokens may not be used to purchase non-food items, or hot food that is meant to be eaten on the premesis.

The program also allows for customers who don't have enough cash on hand to purchase that spur-of-the-moment final bushel of tomatoes for canning before the season is over. They will be able to purchase $5 increment tokens at the market table by swiping their Visa or Mastercard credit or debit card for a small program management fee. The $5 credit/debit tokens may be used to purchase any item for sale at the market. Both tokens may be saved to use at a later date and do not expire.

The market board and membership wishes to thank the Kent Environmental Council for their support and program funding. Their $1,500 donation allowed us to purchase the wireless EBT/credit/debit machine, startup fees, paper rolls and wooden nickel tokens.

If you have any questions about the program, please stop by the market info table under the bridge on Saturday, or contact manager Kelly Ferry at haymakermarket@gmail.com.

Also, our new T-shirts are here – tees in men's and women's style 100 percent cotton, and printed with the new market logo will also be available for sale for $15 each at the market table. We hope to have market bags soon.
