Benefit at McKay Bricker Framing/Black Squirrel Gallery & Gifts helps sponsor art museum bus trip for Kent fifth graders

Since 2004, community members have helped send fifth graders from the Kent City Schools to area art museums each spring. A benefit to sponsor the art museum bus trip will be held on Friday, April 15, from 6 to 8 p.m. at McKay Bricker Framing and Black Squirrel Gallery & Gifts at 141 East Main Street in Kent.

Cass and Bob Mayfield, owners of McKay Bricker and Black Squirrel, and Pat and Dick Myers have spearheaded the initiative designed to give children exposure to the arts. They will be providing wine, soft drinks and appetizers. Everyone is welcome.

Kent fifth graders will visit the Akron Art Museum and/or the Butler Institute of American Art in Youngstown. “Participation in the arts opens up children’s worlds and minds,” according to a National Arts Education campaign.

Contributions may be sent to the Kent City Schools at 321 N. Depeyster, Kent, OH 44240 with a note “Art Bus Trip.”
