Martin Luther King Birthday Concert

Last year there was dancing in the aisles!  Whether or not that happens again, you can count on a lot of fun… an interfaith and multicultural concert celebrating the life and legacy of Martin Luther King. Featured musical guests include The Brotherhood from the United Church of Jesus Christ in Ravenna, Choralworks from Kent Roosevelt High School and the Kent African Drum Community. The concert will be followed immediately by dinner (freewill offering requested) in the church’s VanMeter Hall.

Kent UCC is also the site for the annual NAACP Prayer Breakfast, Saturday, January 19, 9 a.m. to 12 p.m. ($10 tickets available at the door) and, on the federal holiday, Monday, January 21, will cooperate in a variety of projects with community service partners including Kent Social Services, Hattie Larlham, SAFE (Strategies for Attaining Financial Empowerment) and Miller Avenue United Church of Christ in the Summit Lake neighborhood of Akron.  Persons interested in giving volunteer service on that day may contact Christie Anderson at Kent Social Services, canderson@fcsohio.org, to get connected with an opportunity.  Also on January 21, Kent United Church of Christ will host a letter-writing party in VanMeter Hall, 10 a.m. to 1 p.m., providing names, addresses and stationery for volunteers to send encouraging greetings to wounded military veterans.

Kent United Church of Christ is an Open and Affirming congregation of the 1.2 million member United Church of Christ, emphasizing unity in Christ and respectful dialogue with other traditions, extravagant hospitality, and Christian witness through advocacy and service for social justice.
