Who's Your Environmental Conservation Hero?

Nominations are open through March 1 for annual Portage Park District Foundation awards.

Nominations are being accepted for potential awardees to be honored at the 2012 Portage Environmental Conservation Awards Dinner set for April 21 at the .

Nominations for this year’s awards will be considered based on their contributions to Portage County’s environment through education, green business, green development, stewardship and environmental activism.

The 14th annual awards dinner will be held from 6 to 9 p.m. April 21 and will include a reception with music by Mitch Reed, appetizers made from local foods, a buffet dinner with a vegetarian option, 50/50 raffle and silent auction.

Dinner reservations are $35, which includes an open beer and wine bar. A cash bar will be available.

The program will include the presentation of awards to this year’s Environmental Conservation Heroes, followed by guest speaker Gordon Ober, chairman of the Board of Trustees of Robinson Memorial Hospital. Ober will highlight the connection between healthy parks and healthy people.

Fundraising proceeds from the awards dinner will benefit the Portage Park District Foundation, whose mission is to support the park district's critical work of conserving Portage County's natural and cultural heritage.
