Tattoo Parlor Proposed for South Water Street

Proposal for tattoo gallery is second this year to come before planning commission

Yet another tattoo parlor has been proposed for a neighborhood on South Water Street.

The husband and wife pair of Wendi Koontz and Carlos Gonzales have proposed opening a tattoo gallery and commercial illustration business at 850 S. Water St., according to the agenda for an upcoming Kent Planning Commission meeting.

Koontz and Gonzales would be the two tattoo artists, according to the planning commission staff report.

The couple have a purchase agreement for the property and plan to live in the adjacent property at 812 S. Water St.

One issue with their proposal is a lack of parking. City code requires six spaces, whereas their proposal only has four parking spaces.

They could, however, obtain a parking variance from the Kent Board of Zoning Appeals.

The Kent Planning Commission will vote on the proposal Tuesday at 7 p.m.

This is the second tattoo parlor proposed for the area, as not too far away at 707 S. Water St. the planning commission granted approval for Crucible Tattoo to open up shop.
