Residents Hear Loud Boom, Police and Fire Report No Emergencies

Numerous Kentites report loud explosion noise Sunday night

Another mysterious loud explosive noise stirred Kent residents Sunday night.

Numerous Kent residents reported hearing a loud bang or explosion northwest of downtown at about 10 p.m.

Bill Pressler said the noise was so loud at his Majors Lane home that it woke him.

"My wife and kids heard it, and neighbors came out of their homes to investigate," he said.

Tom Simpson, who lives off Fairchild Avenue, said his house shook slightly when he heard the noise.

Kent Police responded to no emergencies related to an explosion, according to police dispatch.

An officer did report hearing a firework that went off on Stinaff Street, which is in the area, around 10 p.m. Sunday.

Pressler said he's unsure if the noise his family heard was just a firework.

"My wife thought it sounded like a house exploding," he said.

This isn't the first unexplained loud noise to be heard by numerous people.

In May, residents of both Kent and Stow reported hearing a loud explosion late on a Sunday evening near the Stow-Kent border, but no emergency departments from either city reported any explosion-related emergencies.

Samantha Loeffler posted on the Kent Patch Facebook page that the noise was likely a large firework that someone set off at the Fairchild Avenue soccer fields.
