Pine Street Reconstruction Delayed

Work set to start in May pushed back to August

Residents of Pine Street will have to wait a few more weeks before they get to drive on smooth, new pavement.

Road reconstruction work originally planned to start in May has been pushed back to August.

Jon Giaquinto, senior engineer for the city of Kent, said in an email plans are being finalized now for the reconstruction of the road way between Harris and Cherry streets.

"The reason for the delay in the schedule this year is workload related both on the city's end and the consultant," he said.

The city is advertising for bids for the project this month with plans to open those bids in July and construction starting in August. This section of the road should be finished by the end of 2013.

The second phase of Pine Street's reconstruction, from Harris to Dodge streets, is not scheduled until 2014.

The $538,000 project includes storm sewer upgrades, according to the city's website.
