Kent Man Charged with Dealing Pot on North Willow

A Kent man is facing multiple drug-related charges after police responded to his house for a domestic call and discovered methamphetamine, marijuana and numerous drug-related items.

The Portage County Drug Task Force served a warrant on Charles W Stehney, 43, of 527 N. Willow St., after Kent Police responded to a reported domestic disturbance June 12.

A Kent officer, while investigating the domestic call, noticed a strong odor of marijuana coming from the residence, according to the sheriff’s office. As police and task force agents secured the residence while awaiting a court-ordered search warrant.

While officers waited for the search warrant Stehney arrived and disobeyed police orders to not enter the residence. As a result, police arrested Stehney, according to the sheriff’s office.

The search warrant uncovered an undisclosed amount of marijuana, methamphetamine, drug paraphernalia and what police suspected to be LSD.

Stehney was charged with: obstructing official business, a fifth-degree felony; trafficking in marijuana, a fourth-degree felony; and aggravated possession of methamphetamine, a fifth-degree felony.

He has a prior, federal conviction for growing marijuana.

Stehney had less than 200 grams of marijuana, according to the criminal complaint filed in Portage County Common Pleas Court. The amount of meth found was “under the bulk amount,” according to court records.

His bond was posted and he has a preliminary hearing set for Friday on the charges.
