Memorial Day means summer is at hand
Throw off the shackles of the long winter and harrowing spring weather for a holiday weekend of relaxation and remembrance.

4. Garden Club of Kent, Annual Plant Sale

Why Go: It's a great opportunity to purchase all the things you need to plant for the upcoming summer. Get vegetables, annuals, perennials, hanging baskets and more. All proceeds go to Project Green, a gardening program for the physically and mentally challenged, and also to scholarships for students of horticulture and conservation. The Garden Club of Kent, formerly the Men's Garden Club of Kent, was organized in 1947.

5. WONE's Rock the Lock!: Rumors, The Tribute to Fleetwood Mac
Where/When: Next to Akron Civic Theatre, 200 S. Main St., downtown Akron.

Why Go: This concert begins the summer season for Lock 3 in downtown Akron. Since 2003 this park has hosted all kinds of events and concerts. It's named after the historic Lock 3 of the Ohio-Erie Canal, which is in view from the park. See the history exhibit and Akron Toy Marble Museum on site. Local band The Wixy 1260's are opening act.
