Festival of Lessons, Carols at Kent UCC

Sing along with the Kent United Church of Christ Chancel Choir as they lead a Festival of Lessons and Carols, Sunday, December 16, beginning at 4 p.m. in the church’s sanctuary.  Modeled after the Christmas Eve tradition of King’s College Chapel, Cambridge, U.K., the festival tells the story of the coming of the Christ Child with favorite hymns and carols, other music of the season, and readings from scripture.   Following the service, a community dinner will be served in the church’s VanMeter Hall, beginning approximately 5:15 p.m.

Kent United Church of Christ, located at 1400 E. Interim director of music, Katie Fowler, and church organist, David Fisher, organize a rich musical program throughout the year with special events for Advent, Christmas, Lent and Easter.  This Christmas Eve, December 24, there will be two mostly-musical liturgies in candlelight.  The 6:30 p.m. service will include bell choir, youth choir, and soprano Guinevere Rhoads performing Handel’s “Let the Bright Seraphim.”  The 10:30 p.m. service will feature the Chancel Choir and instrumentalists with guest conductor Kerry Glann, formerly of Kent State University, now a doctoral student at the University of North Texas.
