The Federal Flood Insurance Program is designed to make it financially possible for people to borrow money to build homes and other buildings in locations where there is a high likelihood that those buildings will be destroyed by severe weather events.
In this system, the taxpayers of the United States all contribute to pay for the homes of those who live close to sea shores and rivers, each time those homes are damaged by water.
After a catastrophic event, news media broadcast interviews with residents who say. "We have been flooded out before and we rebuilt, and we will rebuild again."
Do you approve of private citizens and private businesses rebuilding homes and commercial buildings, in locations where those structures are likely to be destroyed again by future weather events, if those citizens and businesses are using their own funds to rebuild?
Do you approve if those citizens and businesses are using your tax dollars to rebuild?
Does it make a difference to you if it is a year-round family home, or a vacation home, that the taxpayers are paying to rebuild?
Do you approve if the rebuild will result in safety forces risking their own lives to once again rescue those who rebuild in locations from which they will likely need rescuing?
