VIDEO: Tenants Vacate Sunrise Apartments Complex

Monday was the last day for residents to leave the Rhodes Road apartments

By noon Monday, the complex on Rhodes Road had become a ghost town.

of the 98-unit complex, which is scheduled for demolition this year to make way for 201 new apartments on the site.

The new complex, dubbed , will include three new, four-story buildings with 201 units and 612 beds. The new project calls for 612 parking spaces.

Only a handful of former residents remained Monday morning, including several with mental or physical handicaps who were being moved out by their caretakers. Mostly trash remained — littered about the complex.

Front doors on many empty apartments were left wide open. In others, lights and even fans were left on.
