Edwards Communities Development is moving fast on the new South Lincoln Street apartment complex

Construction is moving fast on the new "Province at Kent" student apartments being planned by a Columbus developer near the campus.

Site work is under way by Edwards Communities Development at their South Lincoln Street site for the new 596-bed apartment complex. The majority of the project consumes the large site east of South Lincoln Street, south of Summit Street. It does include a few small cottages to be built east of South Lincoln Street.

The developer plans to have the complex open and renting to students by the fall of 2012.

I thought a couple had sued to stop this complex from being built. How can it be built if there is a suit to stop it, and the suit hasn't been dismissed?

With obvious concern from the community - the lawsuit arose after many, many people attended and questioned the wisdom of this development at numerous council meetings - why didn't city council and other leaders opt for a delay to look at other potential sites for the development? Is the DuBois property available? Are there other sites that would make more sense? Development in this town really frustrates me. A strong TOWN AND GOWN COMMUNITY needs to be strong and support each other from both sides. I'd like to see more evidence of city/university leaders and developers working together to come up with creative solutions, rather than the bulldozer-to-get-it-done approach.
