Mobile App from Davey Tree Calculates Value of Your Trees

App explains value of a tree to your home, personal life

The Davey Tree Expert Co. is taking trees into the digital age.

A new app for mobile phones from the tree company, called "Tree$ense," lets you calculate the value of a tree in your yard to your home and personal life.

The application, available on your mobile phone by visiting value.m.davey.com, walks you through the process of identifying trees, their size and diameter, location in your yard and relative health. The app then calculates the monetary value of benefits created by the tree annually, such as storm water savings, air quality benefits, Co2 reduction and electricity savings. The savings are based largely on rain absorption, shade and absorption of pollutants.

A key benefit of the app, according to Davey Tree, is that it can help homeowners choose where to plant new trees based on the most value they'll get from the tree's yard location.

“Trees are vitally important to us environmentally, socially and economically,” said Greg Ina, vice president and general manager of The Davey Institute, in a press release. “They regulate climate, cycle nutrients, provide raw materials and other resources and offer tremendous beauty. Trees protect and shield us and provide habitats and ecosystems for animals and plants. They enable all of us to live more comfortably.”
