UPDATE: Burbick has Businesses Ready to Move into Katie Brooke Quilt Shop Space

The downtown Kent knitting store closed on Saturday after almost five years in business

The popular in downtown Kent has closed.

The knitting and quilting material store moved to the Phoenix Project redevelopment in 2009 after opening in a small storefront on South Water Street about four years ago.

The reason for the closing is unclear and was announced on the store's website this week in two brief sentences: "We thank you for all of the years of your patronage and friendship. Our store is now closed."

The owner of the quilting store, Kent resident Marcy Moisio, could not be reached for comment Tuesday.

Ron Burbick, owner of the Phoenix Project buildings, doesn't expect the space fronting Main Street will be vacant for long. Burbick said he has several potential tenants who could move in to the space immediately once the quilting store contents are removed.

The store closed Saturday. The Kent Regional Business Alliance recently reviewed the store's business plan in an effort to improve operations and profitability.

The store is not the first in the Phoenix Project and Acorn Alley redevelopments to close.

Last year, Rehab Vintage clothing store shut down. And the student-run Main Street Snack Shoppe also closed. toy store expanded into the former Rehab space, and a jewelry boutique recently opened in the former snack shop location in Acorn Alley.
