It can't happen soon enough for Laziza owners Michael and Nicole Awad. Michael said he's heard the lines could be operational by this Friday.

"We're still in our soft-opening phase. The phone lines aren't in and the website is still under development," he explained. "Until then, people will have to come in if they want to make reservations or book parties."

Walk-ins are welcome, but they may need to relax at the bar for a bit, depending on what time of day they arrive.

"We're swamped – people can expect a wait," Awad said apologetically during a lull between lunch and dinner Tuesday. He was using the downtime for some high-speed multi-tasking that involved several trips up and down the stairs of the two-story restaurant.

Laziza, which serves steaks and seafood in addition to its Mediterranean specialties, had 268 patons on opening day last Thursday. On Friday that number jumped to 360, followed on Saturday by 400 diners. Awad is thrilled by those stats.

And patrons also appear to be quite pleased.

After shared about Laziza on its Facebook page Saturday, Kent City Councilman Jack Amhrein said that he and wife Claudia "went Friday night and loved it!!!"

, an Acorn Alley II neighbor of Laziza, replied to the Main Street Kent post, "I've had lunch at Laziza twice already and its awesome!."

Marilyn Sessions, human resource and training officer at , wrote, "Was there last night with Fialas, great place, wonderful service, wonderful food and simply BEAUTIFUL!"

The Fialas she was referring to included Mayor Jerry Fiala, who wrote in another Facebook post that it was his second time eating at Laziza.

Bob and Cass Mayfield, owners of , wrote on their company's Facebook page, "... Very nice space, the food and service was top notch. We will be back."

Hours

Laziza's hours are 11 a.m. to 10 p.m. Mondays through Thursdays; 11 a.m. to 11 p.m. Fridays and 4 to 11 p.m. Saturdays. Awad said the restaurant is currently closed on Sundays, but that's a seasonal thing that will likely change once can be used.

Contact information

Here's the restraurant's contact info – but don't forget that none of it will be operational until Friday at the earliest:

The menu

Like the menu at the Awads' other Kent eatery, ? A number of customer favorites from that restaurant are on the Laziza menu, along with many creative new offerings.

All four pages of Laziza's menu accompany this story as pdfs. Awad said everything on the menu can be ordered for takeout.
