VIDEO: Gougler Smoke Stack Demolished

Massive brick column demolished today as part of Gougler Machine demolition

The that towered over the C.L. Gougler and Machine Co. on Lake Street for almost 100 years turned to dust today.

Gougler retiree Harold Snowberger, 90, of Kent, pushed the button to blow the dynamite at the base of the stack at about 1 p.m. Snowberger spent 44 years working at the factory.

Furukawa Rock Drill USA, the owner of the former Gougler factory, invited almost 200 former employees of the plant to watch the demolition this afternoon. Almost 300 people gathered to watch the demolition, which briefly closed Lake Street though the actual demolition took only seconds.
