Census: Bulk of Kent Workers in Education, Arts or Food Industries

Data released in latest American Community Survey for 2006-2010

The majority of Kent's work force can be found in the educational, arts, entertainment and food services, according to the latest data released as part of the .

The data from the 2006-2010 American Community Survey shows that 31 percent of Kent's work force is concentrated in educational services and health care and social assistance.

The next largest segment, 21 percent, works in the arts, entertainment and recreation, and accommodation and food services industries, according to the census data.

The data are estimates based on completed interviews with almost 2 million housing units each year from 2006 through 2010, according to the U.S. Census Bureau.

Following the arts, the next largest segment of Kent workers can be found working in the retail trade at 13 percent of Kent's total work force.

About 17,000 people make up Kent's labor force of the city's 28,904 total residents.

The largest concentration of workers in the educational field should come as no surprise with , Portage County's largest employer, located in Kent, and also is a big employer in the city.
