Water, Water, Everywhere

With more than an inch of rain per day from Monday through Wednesday, there was minor flooding everywhere.  But Wednesday's afternoon cloudbursts made me wonder if an ark was in order.  Frost Rd. east of Streetsboro was dangerous; I had never seen such hard rain and high water.  The lake at Woodside Campground was more like a river.  Two to six inches of rain were reported in Shalersville, Garrettsville, and Freedom.

The downpour up north caused the Cuyahoga to crest Thursday in Kent.  I happened upon three Akron Watershed employees at the Water Treatment Plant on Ravenna Rd., who said that there were 2.1 billion gallons of water crossing under that bridge today.  One employee said that this was the second highest she had seen the river since 2009.  I've seen it higher one time in the 25 years I've kept weather records.

At Tannery Park the river was not as high as I expected.  Although it covered the new section of paved trail, it stayed close to its banks.  In the past I would see water come up to the base of the parking area.  I'm guessing that the Munroe Falls dam used to keep a higher level of water even up to Tannery Park.  With it gone, flooding is probably less at the park.
