A Sunset Trifecta

I've seen several gorgeous sunsets since moving to Twin Lakes, but never like the three I witnessed Thursday.  No, I didn't move to a different planet with three suns. But I was moved that evening by three distinct bursts of blood-red clouds in the west. 

I noticed the first when I looked up from my desk to an orange sky.  I first took a grab shot with my phone, then ran out to the dock, grabbing camera, boots, and coat on the way.  By the time I was there it was gone.  I returned to my work, but awhile later I noticed a second red sky, completely different than the first.  I'd never seen two scenes like this on the same day, so I was not prepared.  I made my now familiar dash to the dock, but - you guessed it- the light was gone. The clouds were moving briskly, and light was changing faster than Superman in a phone booth.  I made my trek, again, back to my desk.  But this time I kept my coat and hat on, left the camera by my boots, and checked the sky every few seconds. 

The third time was the charm.  I ran down the stairs at the first hint of pink and made it to the dock in time to get a series of shots.  A young girl from down the street saw me.  "Whatcha doing?"  "I'm taking photos.  Just look at that sky!"  Unimpressed, she sauntered off, leaving me alone to exclaim to no one, "Holy carpe diem, look at that!" several times.  Unfortunately, the photo here doesn't convey the extent of the colorful clouds.  The fingers of red and their reflections in the lake were so long that they looked like a hand coming out of the sky, reaching to whisk me away.  For a short while it looked like a very different planet indeed.
