Standing Rock Supporters Look for New Green Space

Supporters of Standing Rock Cultural Arts are looking for new green space for the arts group to use to support its mission.

This month a Portage County judge ruled in favor of the Kent Wells Sherman House, Inc., and its efforts to place the historic house on the lot at 247 N. Water St.

The decision ended the attempt to stop the relocation of the house to the lot, which had been used by SRCA for two decades for arts events.

Lisa Regula Meyer, the lead plaintiff in the case, said the group has no plans to appeal the decision and instead is searching for a new green space in Kent for the arts group to use.

“First thing’s first, we actually have to raise enough money to go ahead,” Regula Meyer said.

She and Jeff Ingram, director of the SRCA, have started a RocketHub online fundraising campaign to raise money to buy green space for the arts group to use.

Their goal is to raise $10,000.

“Just in the couple days it’s gone up we’ve had two supporters besides myself for a total of $100,” Regula Meyer said.

The fundraising campaign ends Sept. 30. To donate, click on this link.

Regula Meyer said they also would be willing to accept a land donation or support from the city via a land donation.

“That would be absolutely fantastic,” she said. “If there were a private citizen that were willing to donate land, that would be amazing.”
