Kent State Couple First to Celebrate Wedding at New Hotel

Alumni are first couple to hold wedding reception in new downtown hotel

Two Kent State University alumni made local history as the first couple to celebrate with a wedding reception in the new Kent State University Hotel and Conference Center.

Nate Sargent, a 2009 graduate, and Sadie Kelly, a 2010 grad, celebrated their marriage Saturday in the new 300-seat banquet center at the new downtown hotel on South DePeyster Street.

The couple met while students at Kent State’s School of Journalism and Mass Communications.

Kelly booked the reception well in advance of the hotel’s June 14 opening—and before hotel management even had a confirmed opening date.

“Everyone sort of thought I was crazy,” Kelly said. “But the hotel is just absolutely beautiful. It couldn’t have turned out any better.”

The wedding incorporated local fare with popcorn from Popped! and photography shot by Carman & Pugh Photography, both of which are businesses in Acorn Alley across the street.
