Local Bluesman Comes Home, and 'Grease' Is The Word

A gigantic musical lineup in Kent this weekend is highlighted with the performance of Rock Hall inducteeat the on Sunday.

Where/When: E. Turner Stump Theatre, 1325 Theatre Dr.,, Music and Speech Building, Friday at 8 p.m.

Why Go: Talented students belt out favorites about hot rods and young love from a classic American musical. This is part of the Roe Green Visiting Director Series featuring Michael McIntosh as director. The show runs on regular theatre days until Feb. 27th, with 2 p.m. shows on Sundays.

Patrick Sweany CD Release

Where/When: , Friday Feb. 18th, 9 p.m.

Why Go: began playing live guitar as a teen in local venues like the former Brady's coffee shop. After many years toiling in Northeast Ohio, he moved to the music mecca of Nashville, TN, and began touring nationally. He visits Kent this week to showcase his new CD from Nile Mile Records titled That Old Southern Drag.

Pricing: Free for 21 and over.

George Clinton and Parliament Funkadelic

Where/When: , Sunday, 8 p.m.

Why Go: Simply, a once-in-a-lifetime event. This Rock 'n' Roll Hall of Fame member plays for free at the bar's 10-year-anniversary celebration. Classified as the "Grandfather of Funk," was enshrined to the rock hall in 1997 along with Parliament Funkadelic. He is renowned for his contributions to funk, R&B and rap. Get to this event early or forget about finding a seat or a place to stand.

John Jorgenson and his Gypsy Jazz Quintet

Where/When: , Sunday Feb. 20th, 8 p.m.

Why Go: Called the "U.S. Ambassador of Gypsy Jazz," this Grammy award winner has played with the likes of Elton John and Barbra Streisand. His unique guitar style is something not to miss.

at The Stone Tavern

Where/When: The Stone Tavern, 110 E. Main St. Kent, Monday , 9 p.m.

Why Go: A great friend once told me, "Vinnie, we laugh to keep from crying." Practice this keen belief as local chuckle hounds throw their funny lines around in Kent's newest venue.

Wick Poetry Center features Hugh Martin & Maggie Smith

Where/When: , second floor Kent State Library, Tuesday, Feb. 22nd, 7:30 p.m. to 8:30 p.m.

Why Go: Former Iraq soldier Hugh Martin reads from his collection So, How Was The War? Also reading selections will be Maggie Smith, winner of the  Benjamin Saltman Poetry Award, the Pudding House Chapbook Competition and the Wick Chapbook Competition.

Pricing: Free. Open to all.
