Get Out: Pie Contest, Paranormal Book Signing, Women who Rock and a Broadway Play

Pop legend Eddie Money plays Kent and the Cleveland Indians have a weekend full of events too

In this weekend's edition of "Get Out," we combine traditional American fare like baseball, hot dogs and pie, with less-traditional subjects like female rockers, the paranormal and plays based on animated movies.

There should be something here for everyone. 

1. Kent Roosevelt & Fundraiser

Why Go: Students, clubs and the community battle it out for the best pie in town. After the judging, the Roosevelt Booster Club and Riders Taking Action will sell slices for donations to Kent Social Services. The pie bake-off precedes the annual Pops Concert.

Pricing: Free entry, but the pie will cost you.

2. Paranormal Book Signing: Patricia Pfeffer

Where/When: , 124 E. Main St., Kent.

Saturday, May 14, 2:30 p.m. to 5 p.m.

Why Go: Local paranormal author Patricia Pfeffer signs her latest book, Planet Earth, our Virtual Reality Game Room. The book details some of her experiences, communications, views and otherworldly manifestations in time and space. Get a book and tell her about your own experiences.

3. Women Who Rock: Vision, Passion, Power – Exhibit and Spring Benefit Concert 

Where/When: Rock and Roll Hall of Fame and Cleveland Public Hall

Exhibit opens today and runs daily at Rock Hall

Saturday, May 14, 8 p.m. Spring Benefit Concert at Cleveland Public Hall

Why Go: The exhibit features pieces accumulated from more than 70 female artists of various musical genres including their clothes, instruments, sheet music and more. See the interactive sound and video stations.

The Spring Benefit Concert lineup includes Cyndi Lauper and Rock Hall inductees Wanda Jackson, Mavis Staples and Darlene Love. Lauper is hugely successful, Jackson is known as the Queen of Rockabilly, Staples is a Grammy Lifetime Achievement Award winner and Love was just inducted in the most recent 2011 class.

Proceeds from the concert go to Rock Hall educational activities.  

Pricing: $13 and $22 – Rock Hall. $20 – Spring Benefit Concert.

4. Eddie Money

Where/When: The Kent Stage, ., Kent.

Saturday, May 14, 7:30 p.m. and 9:30 p.m.

Why Go: This former New York City policeman turned into a Top 40 Hit star and sold more than 28 million records. Known for songs like Two Tickets to Paradise and Take Me Home Tonight, as well as the MTV video Shakin'. He plays two shows in one night in Kent for his fans, known as "Ed Heads."

Pricing: $38 and $28

5. Cleveland Indians baseball

Where/When: Progressive Field, 2401 Ontario St., Cleveland.

Saturday, May 14, 1:05 p.m. - Faith Day and Postgame Concert with Reliant K

Sunday, May 15, 1:05 p.m. - Kids Fun Day, Run The Bases

Why Go: Your Cleveland Indians are still in first place and have one of the best records in the American League. They play the Seattle Mariners this weekend. Tonight's combination of cheap hot dogs, fireworks and inexpensive seats is a real triple play. Kids 12 and under can run the bases after the game on Sunday.  

Pricing: Tickets range from $8 to $100 and bleachers are $10. Half-price tickets for students with ID are lower reserve and mezzanine only. See more details at indians.com

6. Beauty and the Beast

Where/When: E.J. Thomas Hall, 198 Hill St., University of Akron.

Wednesday May 18, 7:30 p.m.

Thursday May 19, 7:30 p.m.

Why Go: This was a giant hit on Broadway that ran for 13 years. Based on the Academy Award-winning Disney movie. It continues the Broadway in Akron series and welcomes original director Rob Roth and feature choreography by Matt West. It's an extravagant touring production with all the bells and whistles that set it apart from the rest.
