Get Out: Live Sitar, Environmental Block Party and More This Weekend

See one of India's leading musicians, celebrate Earth Day with a block party and hear string quartets for free in and around Kent

Sitar and Tabala player Nayan Ghosh of India highlights the close of the Kent State University "Spring for the Arts" celebration tonight.

The "Who's Your Mama" Earth Day & Environmental Film Festival extravaganza features movies, live performances, parades, vendors and more this weekend.

The Nexus and Aidan string quartets perform free for the last time at the on Saturday.

There is also a student art exhibition, a book fair with 60 dealers and the Postcard Show to visit this weekend.

Tonight, April 22, 7 p.m.

Why Go: The Indian Music Circle presents one of India's leading musicians on the Sitar and the Tabala. The opportunity to hear the unique sound produced by these instruments at the hands of one of the worlds best should not to be missed.

Pricing: $10 General Admission. Free for students, faculty and staff with ID.

2. "Who's Your Mama" and

Tonight, April 22, 5 p.m. to Midnight, Film Festival, Kent Stage.

Saturday, April 23, 11 a.m. to 5 p.m., Street Festival activities, E. Main St.

Why Go: This is the annual celebration to bring awareness to sustainable and ecological practices and celebrate Earth Day. Friday's film fest features children's eco-movies to start the night, then a showing of Turtle: The Incredible Journey, and finally the blockbuster Avatar.

Saturday events feature blocking off East Main Street in downtown Kent for booths, vendors, entertainment, a parade and more. All events are weather permitting.

Pricing: Friday Film Fest $10 for entire evening, $5 for one film, $2 for kids films.

Saturday Block Party is free and open to the public.

3. BFA Fine Arts Exhibition

Where/When: School of Art Gallery, Art Building, ,

Today, April 22, 11 a.m. to 5 p.m., regular daily gallery hours.

Tonight, April 22, 5 p.m. to 8 p.m., artist reception.

Why Go: See the fine work that Kent State art students have spent countless, painstaking, sometimes maddening hours to create.

Pricing: Gallery free but donations appreciated.

4. Akron Antiquarian Book Fair

Where/When: John S. Knight Center, 77 E. Mill St., downtown Akron,

Today, April 22, 3 p.m. to 8:30 p.m.

Saturday, April 23, 10 a.m. to 4 p.m.

Why Go: More than 60 dealers present first editions, cookbooks, science fiction, childrens books, art books, literature, travel and much more. Sponsored by the Northern Ohio Bibliophilic Society.

Pricing: $3 and $5

Saturday, April 23, 1 p.m.

Why Go: This is the last free performance at the library by these talented Kent State String Quartets in Residence. The musicians finale comes after two years performing free for the public at our city's wonderful library.

Pricing: Free and open to the public.

6. Wish You Were Here - National Collage Society Postcard Show

Where/When: , 141 E . Main St., Kent

Exhibit runs daily until May 14

Gallery Hours Wednesday to Friday, noon to 5 p.m., Saturday 10 a.m. to 4 p.m.

Why Go: See this interesting art form using pieces of brief pictoral correspondences. With this exhibit, The National Collage Society continues to bring awareness to the burgeoning medium of collage art.
