George Clinton and Parliament-Funkadelic perform at Water Street Tavern

Bar celebrates 10 years in business with iconic funk band

Kent music fans got a rare treat Sunday night when Rock and Roll Hall of Fame members George Clinton and his band Parliament-Funkadelic performed at the Water Street Taverns' 10th anniversary party.

The musicians, who played a free show for a large crowd, are widely recognized as being the architects of what we now know as "funk."

Water Street Tavern owner Mike Beder said he booked the legendary band to help "bridge the gap" between two core audiences — Kent State University students and older members of the Kent community.

“Their song catalog is legendary, and they have a universal appeal to all ages,” Beder said.

If that's who he booked for his 10th anniversary, we can't wait to see what Beder does for his 20th.
