Ohio Choro Club Reunion

Kent State ethnomusicology doctoral candidate and guitarist Eric Murray started Ohio Choro Club (OCC) in 2007 with percussionist Jason Little, clarinetist Sara Tamburro, and mandolinist Jon Mosey. The goal of the group was to act as a nucleus for a club based on Brazilian choro music. Beginning in November 2008, the group began hosting a traditional roda de choro [lit. choro circle] once a month at the Water Street Tavern. This choro jam session lasted until 2010, when Murray left Ohio to perform dissertation fieldwork in Brazil. OCC’s roda de choro has attracted people (both musicians and audience) from all over Northeast Ohio as well as Pittsburgh, PA and Buffalo, NY. Come join them for a reunion. Bring your instrument or just come to listen. In honor of the jam session, The Water Street Tavern will be serving caipirinhas, the national cocktail of Brazil.
