The Mandell JCC’s Theater Camp production of the musical Once On This Island Jr. makes a splash with two performances at the Herbert Gilman Theater on Thursday, July 19 at 7:00 pm and Sunday, July 22 at 1:00 pm at the Mandell JCC, Zachs Campus, 335 Bloomfield Avenue, West Hartford, CT.

With a catchy score, this musical is the Caribbean adaptation of the popular fairy tale The Little Mermaid. The production tells the story of Ti Moune (Lucia Katz), a peasant girl who rescues and falls in love with Daniel (Zachary Goldberg), a wealthy boy from the opposite side of the island. The gods of the island, Agwe (Miriam Holsbeke), Erzulie (Sydney Weiser), Asaka (Sadie Margolis) and Papa Ge (Amanda Chin) guide Ti Moune on a quest to test the strength of her love against the forces prejudice and hatred.

The show is performed by campers ranging from grades 3-8, and is directed and choreographed by Carolyn Mostel Weiser, with musical direction by Frank P. Jackson, and also features the talents of: Eva Astrachan, Abigail Azia, Jessica Berman, Myia Chappell, Emily Cummings, Giavanna Curran-Lopera, Sarah DeSanto, Grace Donovan, Live Drazen, Hadas Goldberg, Michal Goldberg, Rae Gutcheon, Allie Keith, Sophie Kudler, Danielle Kursman, Eve Laub, June Laub, Noah Lerner, Margaux Levine, Ariella Mann, Jessica Nathan, Kitana Park, Nyssa Park, Veronica Safryn, Rachel Siegel, Lilly Silverman, Maxx Smith-Rapaport, Megan Stanyard, Ava True, Carmen True and Katharine Whalley.
