Kean won the 2009 Kent State Folk Festival contest with his guitar instrumental "After the Harvest." He appears regularly in the annual Woodchoppers Ball concerts, which feature some of the world's finest guitarists.
Gabe McCaslin, writing in FolkWorld eMagazine, described Kean's music as "a treat for lovers of melodic guitar."

Joseph Bourgeois on RootsMusicReport.com called him "one of the best guitar players of all times." His CDs have received rave reviews, and he maintains a busy performance schedule in the Ohio Valley as well as nationally.
Kean's musical background ranges from rock and folk to bluegrass and jazz, and this eclectic mix is reflected in his live performances.

"My interests are pretty wide-ranging," he said. "I write a lot of novelty and humorous songs along with the instrumentals and love songs, and I'm fascinated by the way the guitar and voice interact. I play both with a pick and with fingers, I whistle and stomp and even imitate a trumpet sometimes."
Admission is free. The show will be held at Trinity Lutheran Church, 600 S. Water St. in Kent. More information is available at www.trinitykent.org and at www.kerrykean.com.
