David Mayfield and Family Reunite at Kent Stage

David and Jessica Lea join Mom and Dad for special show

The David Mayfield Parade, the new musical vehicle for the work of the talented Kent multi-instrumentalist, headlined the Kent Stage Thursday night.

Mayfield grew up in Kent surrounded by the bluegrass and traditional music his parents loved. For years he played alongside Mom and Dad and sister Jessica Lea in the family band One Way Rider. Like David, Jessica Lea Mayfield left to pursue a solo career, one that has soared with the release of her second album Tell Me.

David did double duty at last night’s concert, as he joined his sister and parents as One Way Rider “opened” for the main act.

The Thursday concert was an early start of a big weekend for the Kent Stage. Tonight at 8 p.m., Texas swing legends Asleep at the Wheel return. Ray Benson and his Austin bandmates have been playing since 1969, and their top-notch musicianship blended with a good dose of humor makes for a fun night out.

On Saturday, former Grateful Dead drummer Bill Kreutzmann brings his new band 7 Walkers to town. Their music has been described as a mixture of Dead-like jams and New Orleans-flavored funk. Joining Kreutzmann in the group is guitarist and vocalist Papa Mali, legendary New Orleans bassist George Porter Jr. and multi-instrumentalist Matt Hubbard.
