Army of Volunteers Helping With Haymaker Mural

Kent artist Elaine Hullihen is sharing her paint brushes with fellow art lovers willing to assist.

Great progress has been made on the at the site of in just two short weeks of painting, thanks to the small army of volunteers assisting Kent artist and .

Hullihen has been maintaining a list of names representing those who have volunteered their time to the project, whether in the concrete prep phases or painting phases. She's up to 32 names on that ever-growing list.

Some of the helpers are Hullihen's fellow artists and friends, some are members working for time credits and some are complete strangers who just happen upon the site and have time to spare.

The latter happened last Sunday, when a young man from Tallmadge who had just finished tubing on the Cuyahoga River walked by. He stopped and asked Hullihen if he could help, and she set him to work with a paint brush.

The huge public mural is coming to life on a shoestring budget comprised of a few corporate sponsors, cash donations from Kent service organizations and material donations from local businesses.

Those interested in helping to finance the mural can use PayPal's "Send Someone Money" feature and enter the farmers' market email address – haymakermarket@gmail.com – as the recipient.
