A Picture is Worth a Thousand ... Votes?

'Photogs' amateur photography hosted by Standing Rock Cultural Arts wants your votes

Today is Kent's Heritage Festival celebration. And it's one of the "biggest" days of the year for many of us Kentites.

This year, local photographers will also capture some of the attention given to downtown with an amateur photography competition held at the  North Water Street Gallery

Photogs was dreamed up by SRCA President Tina Puckett, who was inspired by a recent show at the Stark County Wilderness Center to start a local, amateur photography contest. Tina also selected and served on a jury that has chosen 25 of the 43 photos entered to compete for the People's Choice Award for both prestige and cash prizes.

The other jurors were Cheryl Townsend, Debra-Lynn Hook and Cass Mayfield.

Here's where you come in. The North Water Street Gallery will be open from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m. today.  Stop in, enjoy art and cast your vote for your favorite photo. The name gives away the location and, as most of that street is under construction anyway, you shouldn't have a hard time finding the place.

If yours wasn't one of the 25 photos selected for the People's Choice Award voting, no worry. Your photo will be shown "salon style," which means that those big beautiful walls of the North Water Street Gallery will be packed with photos — floor to ceiling. The 25 People's Choice contestants will be marked for voting purposes.

The stakes are high. Heritage Fest is one of the highest-traffic days for the North Water Street Gallery and voting is one day only. So in between your corn dog and the fireworks stop by and cast your vote!
