Wells Sherman House Move Reset for Sept. 21
House declared historic by Kent City Council to be relocated this month
After last month's cancellation the relocation of the Kent Wells Sherman House has been rescheduled for Saturday, Sept. 21.
Roger Thurman, vice president of the Kent Wells Sherman House, Inc., board of directors, confirmed the move date via email.
The house is set to move from its temporary location on East College Avenue to a lot at 247 N. Water St., where it is expected to stand permanently.
The move is set to start at 7 a.m. with the relocation finished by 8 a.m. The city will close roads as the house moves.
The scheduled route, according to the Kent Service Department, is: starting on Haymaker Parkway at College Avenue and Depeyster heading east to Erie Street; west on Erie Street to South Water Street; north on South Water Street crossing Main Street; then to 247 N. Water St.
The placement on the lot may take some time, so an extended road closure will be required on North Water Street from Columbus to Portage, Kent Service Director Gene Roberts said in an email.
