UPDATE: Silver Oaks Residents, Supporters Pack Kent Council Chambers

Residents of the retirement complex delivered two petitions tonight asking for council's support

members passed several symbolic, supportive resolutions tonight in support of the seniors at who are being forced out of the retirement community.

A few dozen residents of the retirement complex — and their supporters — packed into council chambers to hand in petitions and ask for support from council, who changed their agenda order to address the seniors first.

Residents started showing up as early as 6 p.m. for tonight's 7:30 p.m. meeting.

David Badagnani, a community supporter who has helped organize the residents, said they will hand in two petitions to council members. One, a "moral" petition, was signed only by residents of the complex and has about 100 signatures. The other petition, circulated throughout Kent, has almost 1,000 signatures from supporters, Badagnani said.

"I’m getting the sense it’s been so stressful for some of them … and it’s been a real strain on them," he said. "If they feel support tonight, I think it might give them energy to continue."
