The city of Kent made the number 41 on the list of 50 safest cities in the state, compiled in the SafeWise Report.
"Situated just 20 minutes from Akron and 40 minutes from Cleveland, Kent is a true college town with local Kent State University as its largest employers and single largest influence on the city’s demographics, including politics, median age, and income," reads the safewise.com blog.
"The city offers a wide range of arts and environmental activities and festivals, including the Kent Heritage Festival every July, coinciding with typical Independence Day activities and celebrations, drawing more than 25,000 additional festival-seekers to the town," the blog continues.
To compile this report, SafeWise used the most recent FBI crime data from 2011, population, and other ranking factors, like unique safety initiatives and security programs implemented within the past few years. From the hundreds of cities in Ohio, researchers narrowed the list down to 50 and assigned rankings according to how the city met our criteria.
“When neighbors know each other, they look out for each other,” SafeWise security analyst John Roskelley said. “Ohio's safest cities are brimming with civically minded residents who clearly take pride in where they live."
