Haymaker Lane to Close for Downtown Construction

Starting May 10 one of the parkway's 5 lanes will be closed

Yet another construction street closure is coming to downtown Kent.

This time it will be one of downtown's busiest streets.

One lane of Haymaker Parkway will close for several months starting Thursday in order to give construction contractors some staging room for work on the and downtown.

The westbound curb lane of Haymaker Parkway will close between Willow and South Water streets starting Thursday. The lane closure is expected to last through November.

On average, 11,940 cars drive on that section of Haymaker Parkway daily, according to 2007 AMATS traffic data.

Aside from construction staging, the lane of Haymaker Parkway is also being used as a parking area for construction workers to lessen the effect of construction work on downtown businesses, according to city officials.

Two westbound and two eastbound lanes will be maintained on the thoroughfare, and signs alerting drivers will be posted.
