Flooding Closes Cherry Street Near S.R. 261

Road expected to be open by end of the work day

Flooding closed Cherry Street near S.R. 261 on the southwestern edge of Kent early this morning.

An inlet pipe for a city stormwater basin has become clogged with debris, and service crews are out working to reopen the basin so stormwater can drain off the street.

The road will remain closed until the flooding is addressed. Motorists should avoid the area.

Cherry Street wasn't the only area to flood this morning due to the heavy rains.

Kent Service Director Gene Roberts said several smaller storm basins caused flooding on streets after they became clogged with debris and ice.
