Jennings to run for Portage County Juvenile/Probate Judge

RAVENNA, OHIO – January 29, 2014 – Local attorney Jonathan P. Jennings has announced that he will run for Portage County Juvenile/Probate Judge. The judgeship term begins February 9, 2015, following the retirement of long-time Juvenile/Probate Judge Thomas J. Carnes.

Jennings, a Republican, is currently an Acting Judge with the Portage County Municipal Court. He also runs his own private practice, Jennings Law Offices, LLC, which has offices in Ravenna and Kent. Prior to that, Jennings served the residents of Portage County for 11 years as an attorney at Legal Aid.

Jennings’ experience as a private attorney well suits him to serve on the Juvenile/Probate bench.
“I’ve been honored and privileged to be able to devote my legal career to serving the people of Portage County.  Throughout my time as an attorney I’ve handled hundreds of cases in the Juvenile and Probate Courts.  These two courts touch multiple areas of law, whether it’s handling estates, guardianships, adoptions, juvenile delinquency, dependency neglect or abuse, custody/parenting time or child support matters,” said Jennings. “As a practicing attorney running two legal offices, I’ve learned the skills for balancing the demands of two offices, and this is an important part of the administrative requirements of serving on the Juvenile/Probate bench.”

Jennings has been an active member of the Portage County Bar Association since 1999. He is also licensed to practice before the Federal District Court, Northern District of Ohio and the United States Tax Court and is accredited to practice before the Veterans Administration.

Jennings graduated from Malone University and from the Case Western Reserve University School of Law. He resides in Ravenna with his wife, Alyce, and their four children. He is an Eagle Scout and active with his sons in Cub Scout Pack 3552 in Ravenna.
