5 Things About PARTA’s Grand Opening Today

Transit agency to celebrate completion of new parking deck downtown

Today officials with the city and PARTA will celebrate the grand opening, and essentially completion, of the new Kent Central Gateway parking deck and transit center in downtown Kent.

Here are five things to know about the grand opening celebration:

  1. Erie Street will be closed between South DePeyster Street and Haymaker Parkway from 11 a.m. to 4 p.m.
  2. Tours of the transit center will start at 1 p.m. with a ribbon-cutting ceremony at 2 p.m.
  3. Congressman Tim Ryan is expected to attend.
  4. Drivers started paying to park in the new deck one week ago.
  5. The deck features 365 parking spaces and 10 bus transfer bays with bicycle storage lockers and several thousand square feet of retail and commercial space fronting Erie Street.
