Singer-Songwriter Demos Papadimas and his band come to Kent's Stone Tavern on January 26th. Releasing his debut album in February, Papadimas was recently ranked #2 by Cleveland's Scene in their "13 Bands to Watch in 2013":
"Singer-songwriter Demos Papadimas says he "feels better than ever" about his forthcoming full-length, Wandering Through the Wilderness. "I finally feel like I got the sound I always wanted," he says. The Howland-based musician plays a mix of American roots and Mediterranean rhythms based on his Greek heritage. On his 2011 self-titled EP, he moves from mid-'60s-era Bob Dylan influences to a song like "Soul of a Man" that conjures up a celebratory hora (aka circle dance) while the lyrics reveal his "cynical optimist" worldview. Papadimas grew up on a musical diet of Dylan, Grateful Dead and Neil Young — artists that followed traditions before tearing them apart."
--John Gatta, Scene
The Hive Robbers' uniquely Ohioan sound has been said to resemble that of bands such as The Decemberists, with vocals paying homage to the grit of Tom Waits, while pulling elements from genres ranging from rhythm and blues to progressive rock.
Hive Robbers' usage of a wide range of instruments such as acoustic and electric guitars, banjo, mandolin, acoustic and electric bass, harmonica, keys, and various percussive instruments brings color and life to their music. Hive Robbers' use of two frontmen vastly broadens the array of sounds they produce, allowing them to create anything from soft folk ballads to energized blues/rock songs.
