The Black Squirrel Adventure Triathlon is a three stage race, canoeing/kayaking, running and biking. Participants may enter under two categories: flat water or white water. White water section is class 1 rapids at normal water levels. Participants can either enter Individually, team or relay. Individuals can use a kayak or share in the time with someone in a canoe. A team consists of 2 participants and has one combined total time. Relay consist of 2-4 participants and has one overall time.

Kent's downtown branch is adjacent to Hometown Plaza, which serves as an informal gathering spot as well as the host stage for many concerts, outdoor movies and other community events.
