Main Street Kent and the Kent Community TimeBank - A Perfect Match

Whoda thunkit? What a great concept! A couple months ago, I met someone at Scribbles Coffee who introduced me to the concept of giving, getting, and doing -- all for time credits. No money involved.

Abby Greer is the great mind behind the Kent Community TimeBank, and Main Street Kent is proud and fortunate to be a member.

What does that mean? Well, for starters, we offered tickets to the Chocolate Walk for time credits. Those were snatched up pretty quickly by another TimeBank member. Weeks later, we needed some outdoor signs made for the Adopt-A-Spot program. Time credits. Now we need our brochure design updated. Time credits. We have some leftover "I'm Nuts About Kent" t-shirts, which we are offering for...yep, time credits. This past week, the Kent Community TimeBank became a "Friend of Main Street Kent" for time credits. Fantastic.

It's unreal. TimeBank members can get a second burrito at Taco Tonto's on a designated day of the week -- for a time credit. Members can get a massage, a pie, a garden weeded, a ride to the airport, pet sitting, painting...it's endless, and priceless.

Our partnership with the Kent Community TimeBank fits perfectly with our mission: To utilize the resources and unique qualities of Kent to broaden and strengthen the economic base of the central business district, preserve the historic integrity of landmarks and buildings, sustain and enhance arts and cultural resources, support existing business, invite new business, and forge positive, lasting relationships among the University, government, business and community.

Headline typos are the best! Haymaker Farmers Market is also a member of the KCTB - we had new signs painted for time credits, and have regular help with the market info table and EBT sales for time credits. The awesome time bank member who has helped with that may find herself with a paid position if she wants it if we get the USDA Farmers Market Promotion Program funding the city helped us go after! We are also working with some KCTB members to develop a weekly children's program at the market. Time Banking is just amazing.

I joined the TimeBank almost four months ago as an "outsider" from Twinsburg Township. I have never been so warmly embraced by a group of people. The next three days I will be in Kent working with others doing various tasks, including helping to prep the bridge at the Haymaker Farmer's Market. I will join the group at our monthly Potluck Dinner. I will use the library. I will be shopping and dining in Kent. I suppose I am doing the very things your mission hopes to happen in Kent. Abby Greer for Mayor! Nope, we need her to much to steer the TimeBank.
